Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A "gargantuan planning effort" for land west of Salt Lake City could include a new ski resort. Planners and politicians are looking at a master plan for land between the Great Salt Lake wetlands and Utah County western slopes, in the shadows of the Oquirrh mountains.
The proposed ski area would place lifts near a 9,300-foot peak above Copperton, west of Soldier Flats. The land is owned by Kennecott Land. It's claimed that the resort would be the closest to any international airport in the world.

Can't comment on this from any position of expertise, but the name Kennecott, and word 'Copperton', suggest that this resort would be near the world's largest 'open pit' copper mine - called Kennecott Copper Mine (an astounding sight if you're ever in Salt Lake City)

Nice one! That map shows quite clearly the copper mine crater - from memory it's 2.5 miles wide - at bottom left, to the left of 'Copperton'.

For those wondering, on the right of the map, you'll see Sandy. to the right of it are two roads going up into the hills. The top one of the two is into Big Cottonwood Canyon, where you'll find Solitude and Brighton. The bottom one is Little Cottonwood Canyon, home of Snowbird and Alta.

Isn't there some lifts about five miles from Geneva airport, up into the French Jura. Lelex? Saw them last time I flew in. Last May and they still had snow in their bowls.
