Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

What a great trip, a couple of slushy days at the base followed by plenty of fresh snow with regular top ups in a resort that was almost devoid of other skiers, yes spirits are pricey but as beer drinkers the prices were no worse than any of the French resorts. Plenty of blue/purple runs for beginners and timid intermediates, only a couple of true reds and blacks but plenty off piste and tree skiing also available. Wind can be a problem at the very top meaning unless your prepared to hike or skin you can't rely on the lifts, having said that, we did not feel short changed as we frequently had runs to ourselves and fresh tracks thru the trees all week.
Don't tell anyone tho, it would be horrible if everybody started going there!

lilywhite, Have been to Are for mountain biking and always wanted to return for skiing. When you say it was not busy does that mean it was about to because of easter holidays ?

Between myself and my partner we have visited 4 times, twice in feb, almost empty piste's first week, busier but no more than 3 min q for chair lifts during half term, the last week of march 2 years running has been extremely quiet, no more than 6 people in a q and plenty fresh snow all week. According to the Swedes it does get much busier for Easter in central Are but you can find quieter slopes if you go over to Duved/Tegerfjall.
I personally can't take school holidays off as it's the busiest time of year at work however my partner has taken his kids for half term week and would again far more readily than visit VT again. Very Happy
