(btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hello everyone, I booked a vacation at UCPA Val Thorens. Has anyone been there before? Is it a good facility? How far is it from the Val Thorens bus station? Can I walk with my luggage and ski equipment?

Any report on what it was like to get to and from the UCPA

? It looks like a bit of a mission on the map, particularly with luggage. I am going with a friend this Saturday. Any other UCPA tips?

I've just got back from my week at UCPA Val Thorens and thought I'd post my own 'reply' in case anyone searches in future. You could walk from/to the bus station 'Gare Routiere' to the UCPA centre if you fancied a comparatively massive hike down/up the twisty main mountain road (no pavement) or up/down potentially deep snow covered/icey pistes. But that would not be very good with the likely luggage everyone would have to transport. Luckily, I confirmed with the transfer company that they would drop off and pick up outside the centre in advance (3 mins walk down a drive). I would recommend you do the same as others had not sorted this out in advance. There is no local resort bus service to ferry you about. This makes going into town for some shopping or on an evening a hassle and potentially unsafe in tricky weather.
Otherwise the centre and experience is pretty good. The tuition on the Autonome course was very good (and we benefitted from 2:6 & 1:4 group ratios but I doubt this is always the case). The variety and standard of food that we enjoyed was very good for a budget holiday, although breakfast was a bit basic.
Bedrooms 6 people in 3 bunk beds with a small locker each. Only 2 plugs in each room so take a extension socket with your travel adapter if charging phones and such is a requirment. 2 showers per 3 rooms (18 people) and 1 - 2 toilets for 18 also (I rarely had to queue though)
The bar was disappointingly expensive - 6 Euros a pint, and wifi something like 20 Euros for the week or 2.5 Euros for 15 mins on one of their PCs.
