Before we went on last year's EoSB I dutifully took myself to TKMaxx and bought myself a jacket and trousers. The jacket I am very happy with but the trousers... not so much. They are very straight cut so the size that fits my, erm, womanly curves flaps and gapes round my knees, which looks rubbish and is also not especially comfortable; and because they're cheap all the warmth comes from padding.
Now that I am confident that I don't hate skiing (hmm, understatement much?) I would like to spend a little bit more and get something nicer. Obviously the best way to do this would be to go to one of the big shops and have a look at multiple styles, but there are no such stores near us and all their stock levels are cr*p now anyway, and thus buying online looks like the best option.
So I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations of something a little more fitted, especially any brands that are suitable for those of us who don't have bottoms like teenage French girls. I see lots of women wearing bootcut ski trousers that actually fit and possibly even flatter them - where do I find them?

lml82, I too have womanly curves and bought these Columbia ski pants (in black) this season. I didn't get mine from Amazon but I found these on sale. They're a very good fit and flattering and excellent quality.

RachelQ, just had a look at these and they seem very good value about £48 on Amazon. How does the sizing work - I am short, well very short, 5 ft and about a 12 - all I could get as some replacements in S&R in February before we came out again were some Helly Hansen kids ones - age 14 and they are working out fine but I have had to buy some braces (supermarket in a remote place in Austria) as they just kept feeling they would fall down, even if the velcro was done up.
Do these stay up ok and do you think that a small is about a 12?

I got some "Sun Valley" trousers in France. They look like standard salopettes but are as waterproof as a waterproof thing (no more wet bum for me!) and they have a slight stretch which helps fit and style. But they cost €169. Now I want an equivalently WARM and waterproof jacket for the New Year trip....They don't seem to be available in the UK.
You could go for stretch trousers which are very stylish and quite warm enough for most of the time but you may find them not to be so waterproof and not warm enough for deep winter weather...and I'm not sure long johns would fit underneath them.
I use outdoormegastore.co.uk or french skiwear/resort shops... just take your money with you and buy over there, you get lots of choice that way (and you have something you can wear in between)

Pamski, I bought the medium and I'm a smallish 12. They've got an extra high waist at the back and feel snug and secure, and they've got velcro strips so you can tighten up the waistband.

lml82, Degre7 do some very nice womens' skipants/salopettes if you are happy to pay £150-200 normal retail price. I bought mine (can remember which model) for similar reasons to you, and love them. They have braces and an adjustable waistband. They do short as well as standard and long leg lengths, which I found useful, as most of the standard length skipants I tried on were bunching up a lot around the knees, as I don't have supermodel length legs. They are very warm and a comfortable, dynamic fit. I did however find the sizing a bit tight. I'm normally a size 40 but found the 42 a better fit.
They are definately more mountain sport than fashion-wear though.

I have some North Face Go Go Pants which are bootcut (no saggy knees) and pull in well at the waist. They have been around a couple of years at least, so you might find a bargain somewhere. You might want to size up though - I'm normally a 10 and needed medium in these.

Yes ... if you would be comfortable wearing white trousers in the UK, in summer perhaps. No, if not.
You can get away with a bit more abroad but your bum will definitely look bigger in white. I used to have white (I am size 10 but only 5'2" and felt OK) until they wore out but I always ended up having to wash the greasy drips from ski lifts off them after a week. Washing ski wear, even in the specialist fabric cleaner/waterproofer stuff, is about the worst thing you can do to it. But for £60 discount....that's pretty tempting!
