Poster: A snowHead
|
After finishing a less-than-perfect ski season in Meribel last winter, I vowed never to ski again. Needless to say a whole winter of pining to be back in the Alps has forced my hand and I'm off to Verbier on Wednesday for a week of skiing on what will hopefully be fresh powder (over 30cm anticipated up-top!).
Seriously excited to fish out all last season's ski gear and can't wait to get back up on the mountain. Watched Attack of La Nina tonight just to get that appetite well and truly whetted.

"less-than-perfect" ? What made you swear never to ski again?
Glad you had second thoughts, anyway.

Intrigued. There has to be a story there? Take it easy, enjoy the sun and snow and tell us when you get back!

What made me not fall in love with skiing? Last season in Meribel. Corrugated cardboard snow, ice and brown patches from January onwards. Combined with a 60-hour a week job, it was quite a stressful few months. The best part had to be March onwards when we just sunbathed and gave the skiing a wide berth.
Looking at the webcams in Verbier now, it looks as though they're due a decent dump!

Addiction well-and-truly in place.
After one and a half days of skiing in sunshine and typical Spring conditions, we were treated to a full dump of snow yesterday for a full day of skiing in fresh powder on and off-piste and some wonderful off-piste tree runs down into Savoleyres.
I'm now hooked on skiing and I've come home to start looking at my next holiday already. I think I've decided it has to be somewhere with a good record of big powder and plenty of trees and rocks to become (not too closely) involved with.
Thinking North America but open to any suggestions.

Astraeus, Alta, Snowbird, Solitude for off-piste trees. Not big on rocks though. Glad the addiction is well and truly set in. Great turn around.

flowa, thanks very much. Those three options give me an initial area to concentrate my search.
I've been looking for medium-term (5-10 year) snow records for resorts but can't find a useful all-in-one resource. If I'm committing to North America, I want to hedge my bets with somewhere relatively snow-heavy. Anyone know of such a website/tool?
