Poster: A snowHead

Hi guys!
I want to ask you what do you think of O'Neill brand jackets? I need to buy new skiing clothing, but I am totally new to ski equipment.
The most affordable and nice-looking were mostly O'Neill jackets. Are they worth buying?
Basically, I only need a small advise on which brands to look into and which ones not to?
I don't need huge breathability (i guess somewhere around 8-10K).
I don't want it to be really thick too, I'd rather wear more layers.
Price range ideally up to 150GBP. I go skiing once a year, so I need smth not too expensive but good.
Thank you!

I was in the oneill shop in chesire oaks factory outlet last week. there jackets seemed good quality within that price range. but what really caught my eye was price of jackets. £150 jackets reduced to £60 and sallopates reduced from £120 to £20-40. There was also oakley, vans, billabong animal, columbia and north face shops with all good deals. North face tux suit (pro-shell) was reduced to £160 but only in medium left. Only issue i didnt pay much attention in general to sizes etc so may find its odd sizes.

I have O'Neill jacket and trousers. I go skiing once or twice a year and they have been great for me over the last 4 years. Coped with really cold weather and balmy spring temps.
I am more than happy with them. I have just water proofed the trousers for the first time because my back bottom got a bit wet last trip, but I was trying snow boarding and spent most of the time sitting down. All in all a good set of ski clothing and I would be happy to buy again when the time comes.
Cheers

That's partly why I am shopping right now, it's the end of the season, prices are great. Yea, there's not too much size choice left, but I was thinking to buy it from the shop online, as there's no O'Neill one in Newcastle, where I am,sadly.
What I found, was that most of North Face skiing jackets (at least those that i like) are quite thick, which is good for a horrible weather, but it is a really small chance experiencing that when you ski once a year for a week. Vans sounds like it is purely a fashion brand...maybe i'm wrong.
Is there a big difference when it comes to fabric? 100%Nylon or Nylon+Polyester?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Depends when you ski I guess but I have had no issues with my TNF insulated jacket in warm or cold temps, just wear less under it if its warm!
Used to have some O'neill stuff, worked fine but imo the TNF stuff is better quality.

I bought a pair of O’Neil pants in yellow and a jacket just before Charismas:

They were the 10k/10k stuff and maybe £300ish for the jacket and trousers.
Overall I am really happy with the design and fit and the looks. The jacket has some nice features; lift pass pocket on arm, various other pockets, an extra zip on the neck which lets out a flap kind of thing to make the neck really big which is very useful when you have a lot of layers on.
The kit is warm for its weight and I was warm and mostly dry in the snowy and very cold weather at Christmas. I might have had a slightly damp bum at the end of one or two day compared to every day in my old stuff. However I was NOT dry in the rain in Scotland. Pretty soaked to the skin actually. My friend who was dressed in O’Neil’s much more expensive and technical rang e was totally dry, and her kit is about 5 years old.
Another negative is that the quality of stitching on the snow cuffs is god awful, they started to come apart after only 3 days (and I wasn’t even really wearing them because they dig into my hands). The same thing was also happening to the jacket of a girl who was staying in our chalet and hers was a different model but the same style of cuffs.
Overall I would recommend the O’Neil stuff as for me It hit the right balance between looking good, technical specs and price. However if I were into ski touring, or out for a season, I would go for something more technical.
