Hi all, i'm going to purchase some new ski's for my trip to Austria in a few weeks. I have always fancied a set of Head Monsters few years ago but never got around to buying them. I've now had a look & seen they do a Heak peak rangewhich is it's predecessor. The model i looked at was the 78.
But I've also read from some reviews that the Head Peak 78 is not as good. A friend of mine had a look at some & seemed to think they were a little to flexible.
I'm 5Ft 11in, around 12 stone, (78kg) & I'm an intermediate level skier looking for a good ski to advance my skills. I do enjoy quite a fast ski, & tend to ski more on piste, but would like something that I can use for light off piste when there is fresh powder.
I was thinking 78cm under foot would be a good size and ound 168-170cm long for my eye level.
Does anyone know anything about the Head ski's & are there any good equivalents I should look at. The prices I've been looking at were around £330 with bindings

Don't know about the peaks,
But I do know about head monsters. I have had
A pair of head monster 78 in 178 length since
2009. Great ski for piste & powder upto boot deep.
I'm 6ft and 79Kilo, so similar size & weight to yourself.
I have some 110mm rocker skis for big POW days & off piste skiing. But the heads are great for piste & off the side pistes and trees etc and for piste days with my family when
There is a bit of fresh about and I just dip off a few in resort off piste and meet back up at the lifts with the others.

Put a pair of Fisher Watea's on your list. I have now done 4 weeks on them and as you can imagine with the recent conditions skied on and off piste. A real all mountain ski. I was worried that at 167cm they would be a bit short in the powder, but I have not had any problems. I'm 78kg and 5ft 8in, skiing ability is top end and I average 10/12 weeks a year.

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at them fishers to. It's getting harder to find a head monster thats why I looked at the head peak. there is also Head icon TT which someone suggested.
What does the 78 width feel like edge to edge on piste & carving?

Within the Head range I think the Titans are probably more suitable for what you're looking for than the Peak skis (which next season will be replaced by either the Rev or Integrale ranges). The Titan is relatively stiff for on piste performance, with a 13.5m turn radius, but with a little bit of extra width for times when you have a little bit of fresh powder to play in.

What sort of sizes would i be best looking for & turning radius for my level, if I'm wanting to improve my turns and carving? I had a look at the fischer watea 78, the turning radius is 18m.
I've been using an old set of Volkl Carvers they are 105-65-92, 18.5m @177cm.
I'll check out the Titans now, I had a look at the icon TT 500, but that is still only 68 under the foot, I was thinking more 78 unless someone says otherwise.

I wouldn't go anywhere larger than 18m. A ski with a tighter turn radius will turn more quickly so you'll be able to keep your speed to sensible levels, giving more confidence to carve turns arc to arc rather than skidding the skis to keep the speed in check. Something like the Titan, where r is in the region of 13-16m might be suitable.

Ok rob thanks I didn't realise the tighter radius would help this way, as one of the things I was to improve on is my turning technique on the steeper slopes, being able to put in more turns to keep my pace in control.Someone i work with advised around 13-14.5m. Is the Titan a new ski or do they have a 2011 model which may be cheaper than the 2012 which I'm seeing at around £450.

ddan1275, the Titan has been in their range for 2 or 3 seasons and will be available next season. Not sure about pricing, but I'd say if you can get in in an end of season sale this year that's going to be cheaper than waiting until next season's kit becomes available in the autumn.

ddan1275, I ski sometimes on a pair of watea 78's in 174cm, i am 5 foot 9 and just under 12st. and did my thoughts on them here

They have fallen in and out of favour from time to time with me, but are basically cracking all mountain ski with bias to soft snow and very good for a ski with a waist of 78mm in powder. I have also skied them (different pair) with a railflex binding on them and they are better on piste with the railflex, seems to stiffen them up a bit. The only thing they don't like is going quick on a very hard piste, tips flap, but they still grip.

Rob i've had a read up on the i supershape titans, just trying to find someone who has them in stock is a little bit harder. I'm going to keep them at the top of my list now as I've read the Peak series is only good if you can get the stiffer 2010 model. the floride doesn't have the metal in.
do you know anything about the Icon TT series? A local shophas some in stock.

Season 07/08, bought new, 3-4 weeks in total over 2008-2009, piste only, edges/base in excellent condition, factory base pattern still preserved. Will upload pics before the weekend and post links.

I have peak 78's and really like them. Lots of folk will tell you they're not stiff enough but IMO a lot of intermediates go too far the other way. Especially as like me you are not particularly heavy.
