Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

The effect of weight on ski choice?

I have a friend (yes really!) who does a lot of body building and is therefore pretty heavy (I'm guessing around 16stone)

He's skied 2 weeks and is looking to get some skis in the end of season sales.

I'm assuming he would want a slightly stiffer ski than a traditional beginner ski due to his weight, and therefore should look at intermediate/advanced skis?

Just wanting to validate my thinking?

He has spotted these in the sales, no idea how stiff they are though!

I'm no expert, but agree with what you're thinking about weight and stiffness. I would recommend though that with only two weeks experience he'd be wasting his money to buy his own skis. I would spend the money on lessons instead, and delay getting skis till he has advanced a bit more and can evaluate how a ski feels to him, then try out a few and pick the pair that suits.

But if he's after a pair of Atomic skis, give White Mountain Ski a call; they can probably do a better deal: http://whitemountainski.co.uk

kitenski, I'd submit that 2 weeks is too early to buy skis. Especially if he's a quick study, he'll want something else far too soon.
