We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Trip report: La Norma, Maurienne valley

We went for a week at La Norma. 2 intermediate skiers and 3 small children (who have done 3 weeks skiing each). We also took our boards (which we are better at than skiing).

It has 65km of piste, plus an 'espace freeride'. There are 2 blacks - one which looked very steep, narrow, mogully and with a natural halfpipe (so we didn't go down it!). The reds were generally lovely some wide, some through trees, some adjacent to freeride areas. All well maintained. Snowboarders might not be too thrilled by the lower blues with button lifts, the higher reds, all served by chairs are a delight. The long green home that is a cat-track wasn't great, but there were alternative red routes down that were great.

There are several button lifts on the blues and greens, 1 gondola and several chairlifts. While we were there it snowed, and so the slopes were generally brilliant. Great off-piste opportunities from what we could see, and an opportunity to visit other villages in the valley because of bus trips organised by the tourist office, and covered on an area 'eskimo' pass.

The ESF was pleasant and helpful. The lift attendants were pleasant and helpful!

There were 2 mountain restaurants and several others in the village. They were not too expensive and generally very friendly staff with standard fare.

The village is pedestrianised and very family friendly - the tourist office organise evening events for kids ( a disco, a sledging party, husky rides etc). It is a purpose built resort but it is clean and not ugly.

We went with peak retreats and it was a very cheap holidy, especially considering it was half term.
Recommended for families and beginners intermediates especially. We love it!

Curious thing that Eski-mo pass. As offpisteskiing pointed out to me, the 6-day pass is more expensive (just) than buying six separate day passes at any of the resorts in any combination. Go figure!
