Poster: A snowHead

Hi all
First post. My wife and will visit Zermatt from 28 April to 4 May. I know its late season... Can anyone recommend accommodations that is relatively inexpensive - I know its Zermatt. We want a nice place near the lifts with breakfast. We usually go to smaller resorts (e.g., St. Luc or Zinal) and mostly ski off-piste. Suggestions are welcome. thanks, cmr

charlier, I have stayed at a B&B place called the Alfa which is centrally located and only a couple of minutes from Sunnega, and opposite the bus stop. Really nice to place to stay and very friendly oweners, relatively inexpensive, most rooms face south with great views of the Matt.
It is linked to the 4 star metrpole next door where you have access to their spa and where you would take evening meals if you book half board.
BUt, I would imagine that only the Matterhorn section will be open on the dates of your visit so unless you dont mind catching the busses or paying for taxis you may be better looking for somewhere to stay at that end of town.

Hi Charlier,
I just got back from Zermatt today. It's a great resort as you probably know (although you are exceptionally late in the season). We stayed at the Hotel Perren which I could thoroughly recommend. It's central & close enough to the lifts as well. Not too expensive (by Zermatt standards), & the half-board accomodation we had, while not being overly plush (we were in the older part of the hotel) was perfectly adequate. The breakfast buffets & the four course evening meals which were included were great (& much cheaper than eating out in Zermatt). Check out Iglu Ski who are I think affiliated with Inghams - it was cheaper to book half-board with them than direct with the hotel for bed & breakfast.
Hope that helps. Have a great time.
David

Hi Thanks for the suggestions. It is late season. The Hotel Perren will close a week before we arrive. The Hotel Alpenrose has a twin room for my wife and I. Does anyone have other suggestions. Next year, I will try to arrive before my conference in Vienna. charlie

Stayed at Hotel Rex Garni a few years ago (4?) on a bed and breakfast deal. I don't think they do evening meals. Room was more than adequate, breakfast first class and Spa facilities (inluding indoor pool) superb. The hotel is situated towards the Klein Matterhorn area of the resort. Holiday was booked with Inghams.

charlier, The folks at the Alpenrose are nice, and it's a friendly place with an excellent position for the KM lift.
