Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New Ski Boots Very Squeaky!

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
So, I've put on my new ski boots in (probably) vain hope of bedding them down a bit before next skiing. They are very squeaky as I walk about - sounds like it's coming from where the cuff joins the ankle bit of the boot. Will it stop? is there anything I can do to make it stop?

You're not suggesting that there could be mice in them are you - who would be stupid enough to wear ski boots with anything already inside the boot? wink

to stop plastic-on-plastic squeaks, try rubbing the join area with a pencil, the graphite acts as a stable lubricant. For awkward areas shave down the graphite and pour into the area, levering the joint apart a little with the blade of a knife. work the joint a little and voila, squeakies are gone or at least reduced...

I am not sure if its my boots that are squeaking or my knees Sad

lubricant yes

not WD40 it may mess the plastic up in your boots, WD40 is petroleum based Toofy Grin

Sounds like you've been sold boots that are too big for you... I'd take them back and shout lots!

holidayloverxx, Silcone spray makes is quieter - but not for long rolling eyes I think you have to get used to it...

Cynic, what does it matter where they were bought...they squeak rolling eyes rolling eyes rolling eyes or are you looking to apportion blame for something

as has been said avoid WD40 as it is petroleum based, but mostly as it will attract dirt which will then cause more noise/damage to the plastic

either graphite or a quick spray of silicon which will lubricate without attracting any dirt

this mostly happens when the plastic is either new or very old and dry, plastic rubbing on plastic, normally worse in a warm house than on a cold mountain

also worth checking that all the overlaps of the shell /liner etc are in the correct place and nothing is rubbing where it shouldn't
