Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Anatomy of a turn

In a rather ham-fisted way I've stitched together a bunch of photos showing a single turn in today's Niseko powder. Quite pleased with the result so thought I'd share. Thanks the Kitenski for the photos.

Alans deep bath, I too was wondering how the pic 4 position had been achieved, given what came immediately before and after! Though I think there's a bit of a time lag between 3 and 4, since Rob's much smaller in 3.

I think there is an equal amount of time between each frame as the camera was set on multi-frame. I think what happened is that I came out of the snow slightly just after the transition before heading back in to it. I'm pleased I went in flat or tips down as it meant I wasn't in the back seat at the end of the previous turn (which as been the cause of all my falls this week).

The best way to examine my turns is when you can't see what's going on wink

By hand. Used Frame 1 as the background (but had to extend it to the right to fit the rest of me's in), then copied and pasted each selection of each subsequent frame and moved them around until they seemed to be in approximately the right position.

Nice jacket, good choice.

I've seen a lot of photos like that on skipass.com but people doing tricks or jumps and wonder if there is a tool that stitches them automatically rather than with hard work on photoshop.

There is a function on Photoshop which assists the process, but it wanted to overlap each image of me so I spaced them out by hand. It helps that the background snow is quite uniform so you don't need to be too accurate when you draw around the object in the 2nd and subsequent frames.

We just use photoshop with each photo in the montage as a layer... The trick is finding a static element that can be used to correctly overlay the photos... (eg trees, bushes, ski tracks, lumps of snow etc)

We're in Niseko at the moment. 1m+ this weekend and due to snow everyday this week, No wonder the locals got a bit funny when the big yellow orb in the sky came out last week for a couple of days. Nice pic by the way.
