Poster: A snowHead

I have just found out that Beans of Bicester is closing after 30 years.
Chris the owner was unwell in August and has decided to close.
I am sure all Snowheads will wish Chris a quick recovery, and relaxed retirement.
Beans have always been really helpful and Chris always seemed to remember all his regular customers over the years. We for one got my sons first ski boots there and loads of other bits and pieces over the years.
I popped in yesterday, and they are due to close on the 16th Oct. They are running a closing down sale, not a huge amount left but they were selling roughly at cost price on most things. Some nice ladies skis and some race skis from last season at very good prices.
Good luck for the future Chris and all the staff at Beans of Bicester.

bug! So sorry to hear this. Chris was fantastic with my kids earlier this year. He kept them quiet for a good few hours whilst we sorted out a lot of hire gear to take over to the US.
We bit the bullet and bought skis for them this year (2nd hand) and I only found out about this when I happened to be looking for the phone number on line, as I wanted to get their AND our skis serviced by Chris.
Lovely man and lovely shop, if only all places where like Beans.

Just a quick update on Bicester designer discount shopping village as we visited at the weekend, Tog 24 has closed and Helly Hansen is closing on the 2nd Jan 2012.

Just as a note. TOG24 has closed. However it has moved to Bicester Ave where the large Garden Centre and Cotswold Outdoor are located.

Sad to hear about Beans. It was my local. They did a good deal on boot rentals too.

Was very sorry to hear about Tog 24, but then visited it in its new location which is fine. Didn't buy that much from Helly Hansen over the years I lived in those parts but it at least did add to the ski/snow scene. Of course solutions4feet always was the epicentre.

Sad to hear this. It's a sign of how good the fitting was over the years that our son & daughter never had any problems with boots. Still growing, so still looking to hire boots & skis for them and have ours serviced before we head off to Steamboat at Easter. Can anyone tell me if there's anywhere not too far away they can recommend or suggest??? We live near Aylesbury. Many thanks - any help appreciated.

timwilding, Colin of Solutions4Feet is about as good as you can get for bootfitting, and well worth the drive from Aylesbury (though make an appointment first). Link in Boresdurfing's post above. If Leamington Spa is not too far from you, also take a look at Lockwoods for things skiing. And welcome to snowHeads

timwilding, For ski servicing use Bartletts in Hillingdon, not too far from Aylesbury. New boots, Colin at Solutions4Feet in Bicester, only about 300m from the old Beans shop.
Welcome to snowHeads.

Etimwilding, no need to fret - solutions4feet was always the place for boots in Bicester and Ellis Brigham in MK served me pretty well for all else when I lived in that area.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Cynic, yep, BUT the ski brands have all moved out to another place along the same road!

Boredsurfing, I go for the prada, Church shoes and Villeroy&Boch not for ski.
