Poster: A snowHead

Hi,
I've just got a set of Line1260's without bindings and Im wondering if I should just buy a cheap pair of second hand bindings to put on them or should I wait and spend some proper cash on them?
Are there any special types of bindings for freestyle skis?
Im going to be using a different pair for the majority of my holiday and so would only be using these for the park thats why Im trying to keep the costs down but if it means I could break my leg then obviously Ill wait till I can afford some better ones.
thanks

Big question medlington, you don't necessarily need to go for burly bindings but there are a few considerations for a park ski apart from the usual DIN settings. I think ramp angle of the bindings is important when riding switch, you want to try to get as flat as possible so you get a similar feel, and the number of screws in the toe piece...for example lower end bindings might only have 3 screws and thats just not enough to take any serious landings! If you've got the budget to stretch to a Vist binding I would recomend them over all others, been using vists for the last 5 winters in the park and never experienced a problem, good ramp angle, reliable release and lightweight for their build, spyderjon's the man to see about Vist, no doubts!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

medlington, how much do you weigh and roughly how old are you?
Bindings have a tendency to break.

Call me paranoid, but I'd never buy second-hand bindings. You’re putting a lot of trust in something that you won’t know isn’t up to the job until it fails, and who knows what kind of bangs and scrapes it’s had before you get it.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

People will always talk about weight, but the difference between the different bindings is minimal....
The main thing is a binding that is tough, have a look at Salomons with the driver toe, either the STH series or older s912/s914s....
The look/rossignol px12s are a good cheap binding, or for more money the pivot/fks are great bindings.....
I'd always say spend more on your bindings as they should outlive your ski...

Thanks for the info guys,
Im 32 and around 11.5 - 12 stone (not sure what that is in lbs)
I have got a set of Salomon bindings on my old GS skis that I've had from new but they probably are about 18 years old now, I was considering putting these on the 1260's but I still have a bit of a love affair with my old GS skis and might still want to use them again in future all depends on the conditions.
Im guessing its not so easy to just swap the bindings between pairs?

medlington, swappable if you use some inserts. Search quiver killer on here.
timg, nowt wrong with having second hand bindings if they are in good shape. The manufacturers do retire bindings each year from the indemnified list. Even they I have owned bindings that were no longer on the list and very happy with them.
Bomber bindings = bomber bindings. If they are still working age has very little to do with it.

Most of the guys I ski with at the southern freestyle club prefer Marker bindings but I've got the Salomon STH12s and they seem pretty solid with their steel housing construction. Like others have said, you're best off getting new bindings and get them mounted by a shop with the correct tools

Go for something new if you can.
Weight - The lighter the better for tricks etc
As above number of screws on the toe piece
Mounting where Progressive or traditional Progressive slightly more forward to aid spinning.
DIN if you are sticking landings you are going to need to ramp up the DIN's a tad.
