Poster: A snowHead

THERE IS VERY LITTLE SNOW! In Alagna there is no skiable snow at village level apart from the artificial run from the mid station which is icy verging on boilerplate. At mid station there is very little snow other than the pistes. At the top the wind has made the off piste very rough and hard and the exposed pistes stony. The best of any skiing is to be found on the well used off piste runs and some sections of piste between mid and top station. The situation in Gressoney is a bit better and slightly better still in Champoluc. 3 days ago we were able to find some soft snow in the trees but it is unlikely to be soft now due to the warm temperatures and the high wind yesterday.
The SCCB snow report is misleading read with care or you will be disappointed - we were and left and drove to Switzerland.
To be fair the Italians put a lot of effort into keeping the pistes in good shape and if you want a holiday cruising the pistes and long sunny lunches you will have a great time. But if you a hoping for powder and great off piste go to Switzerland - I will put a report for Klosters later.

BertieG, Hardly surprising? Had a couple of decent dumps round Christmas and I don't think anything since.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Too late to learn from the mistake this year unfortunately. We are booked and fully paid up for Champoluc for mid-term !
Four weeks of crossed fingers to go.

Heading out on the 11th with the family. Hoping to do a number of half days off-piste while the family are in ski school in the mornings. I'm at a relatively early stage with my off piste but hope to join a guided group or buddy up with someone.
If the snow off piste is no good a week on the Monterosa pistes will not exactly be a hardship but it will be disappointing as that is our (my) main reason for going back there. Especially as we've had poor snow for the last couple of years at La Tania and its covered with the stuff this year !
Anyone else going to be out there that week ?

LSnow_Dog, Bad luck I am afraid. But a lot can change in 4 weeks!
