Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alpine town in Switzerland, Austria, France with lots of snow and off-piste hiking out of town?

I've been in St. Anton and Interlaken on a snowboard trip for the last two weeks and have spent too much money on lift tickets! I have 10 more days left on my trip and I'm trying to figure out my next destination. Looking for an alpine town that I could hike some lines straight out of town. I have my snowshoes with me and would like to spend the rest of my time hiking with my board on my back as opposed to purchasing lift tickets. I don't have a car so I would need to either hike right out of town, or be able to take public transportation to an area close by. Also, a town with a hostel/cheap accommodations is also preferred. My train pass works in Switzerland, Austria, and France. Any ideas??

I was hoping for Chamonix but I'm having a tough time finding a place to stay there.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You want to hike to what might be described as "in bounds" offpiste....or seriously off the beaten track offpiste?

If the latter than I would suggest Fionnay, small village near Verbier. Easy access by train to Le Chable and then Postbus.
There is a small hotel, which won't be expensive (by Swiss standards).
With the right map ( and kit, and skills) you could hike to a couple of Refuges and make a few days tour of it.

In all honesty you should try to find somebody to go with if that is your plan.

This might be worth a look if you want cheap passes in the vicinity of Verbier and Chamonix http://www.buyclub.ch/lausanne/
