Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Need to hire for the first week in January to drive to San Vigilio in Dolomites

Any recomendations of car hire firms -ideal to pick up at the terminal not via shuttle buses etc

Would I need Chains or would the car come with Winter Tyres ?

Many thanks for any help.

Anyone any ideas ? The cars I've hired from Innsbruck come with winter tyres as standard but not sure if this goes for Verona ?

HI
we've skied in italy many many times and have hired cars from everywhere pretty much except verona, they won't come with snowchains automatically but normally in such airports during ski season they have plenty of stock of chains when you pick the car up, you just ask and they will add them on. We have in the past contacted the local car hire desk to request in advance but have found that you don't really need to, sorry can't help with verona as never been through there........ oh, and its the law in italy to carry snowchains in the car in winter, even if you don't use them. They will also make you sign a waver detailing 'drop in temperature e and effects on fuel etc etc' they will always reccomend that when you get up to the moutains to fill up the tank with 'winter fuel', you will see in moutain petrol stations some pumps have a sort of mountain looking simble on them.......

Blastfromthepast, No idea about Verona but last year despite our many efforts we found it impossible to source a hire car in Venice with winter tyres. Chains were readily availble, at a charge. I suspect Verona will be much the same and you would struggle to find a car fitted with winter tyres.

So despite being assured twice by Hertz head office that the car would have winter tyres, it didn't. Why am I not surprised ?

Am awaiting an explanation Hertz...

Provided us with a set of chains though as apparently this is a legal requirement

Car was a bit of a joke too. First one they gave us had a huge dent in the side, 65k km on the clock and smelled of vomit. Once we hade loaded up and got the kids settled, we also ascertained it had a flat battery....

The second car was a little less dented and at least started, but was otherwise the same.

Pretty poor really
