Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Seeing some discussion on another thread I thought it might be interesting to see the variation in prices for a weeks lift pass.

What price does your resort charge for a 6-day pass what price for kids/OAPs (and what ages) and any discounts offered for families.

Please - no smart answers like "I don't know because I always buy an annual one" rolling eyes .

Kicking it off...

Alpes d'Huez (where I go in April) 6 days

€198.50 adult
€142.00 under 13/over 60
Free under 5/over 72

Discount of 50% for 4th and subsequent family members.

On the other areas, note that you need to be comparing the same deals, so for example the Val d'Isere price of €182 quoted above is for December only, from 22/12 it goes up to €202, or you can get a restricted area pass for €192 with no access to Espace-Killy.

Also, all of the Austrian prices I've quoted are inclusive of 10% VAT, while the Val price I checked on didn't mention whether it was inclusive or not... and there's also an option to buy a pass with insurance cover, so it becomes €219.

Paul.

unless you're on a seriously low budget, i cannot see that lift past prices are going to infleunce where you ski. It is more the prices of travel and accomadation that affect the price. When i look at different resorts i look at qeues, size, convienance and snow sureability.

Im sure as long as the prices all stay at a similar price, this will stay the same. Plus Espace Killy and 3V can charge what they like to a certain extent, because it is so popular.

Christopher, Some things do make a difference to me. Resorts that don't require the days of a pass to be consecutive are worth knowing about if you have several trips during a season.

The Espace Killy is pretty good IMHO in giving loyalty discounts and credits for days when all the lifts are closed.

Banff pricing slightly unfair comparison as it includes 90-120mins plus of door to door bus travel each day as well.

fatbob, so you have to pay more to go to a resort where they put the town in the wrong place? wink

I have found it easier to get deals for cheaper lift tickets for US resorts than Canadian resorts - where the discounts seem to have been only available if you bought them with accommodation. Cannot get a cheap deal for Fernie this year, lots for JH...

I think if you are a family the price does make a difference because you are multiplying everything by the number of members in the family. A twofold difference in lift price is a significant cost. The other thing is that it is a quick way of assessing whether a resort as a whole is cheap. Certainly within a country as opposed to between countries I find there is reasonable correlation between the price of the lift pass and the price of ski lessons and to a lesser extent accommodation and food and drink prices.

Yep those damn hippies and their National Parks. Teton Village/JH is just outside Grand Teton NP IIRC? Fernie is very hard to get a good deal as a visitor - best break is a Louise card which gives 4th and 8th day free I think but strictly only for BC and AB residents (or those who know someone they can be posted to)

Actually if you stay in LL it is only a 5 minute bus ride each way and rather easier that the drive out to the hill at JH.
