Hi All
Right here goes, 36 years old, 6' 14 1/2 Stone, intermediate skier (good parallel turns, not scared of too much except steep and narrow). I'm going to Switzerland to see a mate who's moved there and we're going skiing for a week whilst I'm over. I've done 6 weeks (ish + a few weekends) and I would class myself as a fairly proficient intermediate, I've not done much off piste (at least on downhill, I've also done a bit of langlauf in Norway) but I guess I will end up getting a bit more into that as several of my friends spend a lot of their time off piste.
What sort of size should I be on, I think last time I had 170's and what should I be looking at in terms of a ski. I've seen some really cheap deals, but I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that they will be rubbish. What are "Pale" skis like? seen some really cheap ones mail order, but I've never heard of them.
What about the Wedze ones from Decathlon?

The pale skis I've seen are pish. I've skied the Salomons you've looked at and liked them, very easy to use, nothing special - mid range, but at your size and weight you may need something stiffer IMO.

I've just "reviewed" them for you! At 6 weeks + a bit I would think you'd find them ok, they are far from being a beginners ski, I've been skiing for about 27 years (roughly the same amount of weeks) & I found them to be pretty good & that's a slightly better price than I paid too (tho' did get a ski bag & poles thrown in). I very much doubt at your experience level you'd see any significant improvement with a stiffer/heavier more expensive ski. I would imagine you'd need the 175's, I'm on the 161's but I'm only 10 & 1/2 stone 5' 6".
I would second the comment about the boots too & as I see you're London based I can recommend Skee Tex in Battlesbridge Essex who supplied my boots & fitted them.

Thanks guys, got some decent boots a few years ago. I always had problems with boots till I got my own as I have very long narrow feet (11 1/2 but E width fitting, have to have my walking boots custom made!). Happy with those for now, but skis are next on my list.
Thought the Pale skis looked too good to be true! I might check out some on one of the indoor slopes, anyone skied on Wedze skis?
