(btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

We are 2 families considering an apartment in La Baume in February. It looks like la baume is just outside St Jean d’Aulps. We have 4 children aged 5,7,8 and 13. The 5 & 7 year olds got their Flocon award from ESF last year and have had another 10 weeks lesson on a dry slope since. The 8 year old is still very early stages of skiing. The dads are competent skiiers and the mums are currently happiest on greens runs but hoping to improve this year.
Last year we stayed in La Chapelle D'Abondance and used ESF. The children all enjoyed the lessons but found the English of the instructors quite difficult to follow. So some questions....
a) How long would it take to drive from la Baume to St Jean d’Aulps and then how much longer to Morzine or Les gets?
b) What is the parking like at Les Gets and morzine - do you have to be there at the crack of dawn to get a reasonable space?
c) Any opinions on the best ski school(s) for our children and is it worth the extra money to use a British Ski school rather than a french speaking one? (The ESF is VERY good value really!) Also looks like we're going to have to go Friday - Friday so would miss the last day of any course.

Hi botch,
1) its 5-10 mins from La Baume to St Jean, then 10 to centre of morzine, and probably 15/20 to centre of Les Gets.
2) Parking can be a bit tricky in Feb. Centre of MOrzine probably best in the main underground carpark near the tourist office. Get there early though. Alternatively there is a regular bus from St Jean to both Morzine and Les Gets, that will cost a euro. Save you loads of money and headaches. Another option would be to go to Ardent (above montriond) - good starting point for the PDS with a big car park at the bottom that is free. That will take you 15 mins from St Jean.
3) Regards ski schools, yes the esf are good and generally have enough english, tho sometimes things can get lost in translation. The ESI often have more choice of british instructors, might be worth a try.

We live just outside St Jean and Morzine is quicker for us (underground charges about 9euro a day) but the journey and parking (free) is easier at the Ardent.
