Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi
Looking at Oz en Oisans for a last minute break heading off this weekend and just read about how cold and shady the resort is at this time of year ... I'd expected cold but hadn't considered the shade element which doesn't sound fun for young children stand around in ski school.
Can anyone speak from experience on this? I'm wondering if I should be changing plan?
Thanks
Tor

tor, You could send a PM to Lizzard - she knows that area well. Forecast for the next week is pretty warm and sunny. But I don't know the place at all.

I spent last season in alpe dhuez didnt visit Oz a lot but yeah its quite shaded where it sits.
I wouldnt worry as the resort as a whole is very sunny, both of the main lifts in oz will take you into the sun. You could sign the children up to a ski school in alpe dhuez which is one lift up to the main bowl then a wide flat green run into town.
Looks like clear skies are forecast for next week too.

Skola,
Skola - thanks for your reply ...
I'd planned ESF in Oz for convenience if that's where we're staying hence my concerns .... Arghhh it's a little late to strumming up plan B!!

I expect they'll be straight up the cabine to the sunny area above ADH or Alpete, there's not much skiing at Oz itself apart from the incoming piste.

Most Ski schools gather up at Montfrais above Vaujany which gets to sun late morning, or as andyrew says, at the Alpette. I've been there several times and never found shade to be a particular problem whatever the time of year.
Have a good trip.

tor, from my limited experience, the shade only strikes in late afternoon. Infact we had the best skiing in Oz during a week in ADH last Xmas. The kids area in Oz is very convenient for lunch and gathering by the lift. I'd say stick with it.

Hi, we went to oz a couple of years ago in early January,. Had a great week, lovely place and really easily linked to ADH and vaujany. Fond memories of being sat on the balcony in a tea shirt in the sunshine! Enjoy!
