Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

US ski industry seeks freedom to import Chinese ski pants

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
SnowSports Industries America (SIA) are seeking the relaxation of an import embargo on Chinese ski pants, because import quotas were filled in early August. To achieve this they are seeking a clear definition of the product. This is what they have to say:
Quote:
[Department of] Commerce has basically agreed with our position and has been working closely with us to develop a functional and physical definition of “snow pant” to aide in a possible “Carve Out” of our products from the quota category of water resistant pants.

This report from SkiPressWorld.
Could someone provide a US-English translation of that sentence, please?

Ok they are basically working on a get arround so that ski trousers will not be grouped together with other waterproof trousers on the quota tarrifs, if they fail to do so expect to see very little in the way of ski gear in the shops this year as a huge percentage of it is made in China, expect to see a lot of nice stuff somewhere though as the products have already been produced and will be filling wharehouses somewhere

Thanks, DGO.
One thing that doesn't seem quite right is the 'e' on the end of "aid".
The former US vice-president Dan Quayle once famously corrected a schoolkid, in front of TV cameras, telling him there should be an 'e' on the end of 'potato'. Read about that incident here.

These are almost certainly Chinese ski pants,
because this photo was taken in China.

The best ones don't get exported.

D G Orf, i wouldn't be expecting to see it on the EU market either though .... it seems the China quotas are busted everywhere .... i think this may be something we can get more used to - given the output from Chinese factories is increasing exponentially and WTO membership has given them a voice and rights at the international trade table ....
