Madesimo opens tomorrow for public. No fees this week-end. Now, the Italian race team are also training here.
Cervinia opened this week, additional lifts in operation from Saturday - 28 euros/day
Bormio opens the upper part with excellent snow conditions - 22 euros/day
Glaciers, Stelvio, Val Senales, and Presena, are also open.
This is the last week-end for Stelvio, and then closed until spring

The monterosa region suffered a bit of a warm spell over the last couple of days, with snow retreating from the lower slopes whilst still remaining acceptable on higher levels. The FL is meant to drop below 1300m this weekend so things are looking up

It certainly seems like a beautiful resort. I wouldn't mind visiting it whenever I was able to get the free time and funds. Now, I'm curious: just how long was this resort under construction? I hadn't heard anything about it and my Aunt is a big-time ski-ing/snowboarding buff. Maybe she heard of it and didn't bother to inform me. Ah well.

Cortina d’Ampezzo and Madonna di Campiglio open this week-end. For Madonna, it is the earliest opening ever. The previous record was November 15, in 1985.

Heavy snowing in Italy today. Presena glacier had 70cm so far, so the resort needed to be closed...

Hi All
Bit confused. Going to Passo Tonale next Mon (20th Dec) for first ever family ski trip (bit excited ). Booked here because we had to go early in season and this seemed a reasonable bet for snow.
Been looking at this site to check on snow for past few weeks
http://www.onthesnow.co.uk/all-italy/passo-tonale/resort_guide.html?gclid=COG6qeGm4aQCFZtp4wodcnPQKg
It seems to say there is plenty of snow even on the lower slopes we'll be on and all slopes are open but there does not seem to have been any new snow for weeks? I know there is little I can do about it but is this normal and is "old" snow going to be hard packed ice by the time we get there?
Any views?
Cheers
Rob

RobWa, I'd be surprised if there's too much to worry about to be honest - http://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/Italy/Passo_Tonale_snow_report.html seems to suggest, as you say, plenty of snow already. Seems there may be a freshen up of a few cms before you arrive. Some very cold temps though but, as long as the wind isn't blowing off the softer snow, I'm sure it'll be fine

RobWa, I skied there with my family in January a number of years back and it was our first solo trip. We thought the area was the right size for a second week out and the instruction was excellent. I understand that the area has better links to the next village now, so there is more to explore. It is basically the top of a mountain pass with the road running through the middle of the village. It had a very good feel to the place, Enjoy and I would echo that snow looks to be fine.

Turning milder as the week progresses and chance of fresh snow by Thursday in the Dolomites.

Mmmm, milder temps may mean rain in Dolomite resorts up to around 1800m on Wed/Thurs and dropping down to 1000m by Fri eve, but lots of new snow at altitude, according to ARPAV.

Bartezki, thanks for the 'on the snow' report from the Dolomites!
Reports show around 40cm of new snow at altitude across most of the area Thursday through to this morning.
More snow forecast for today and tomorrow (15-30cm) with freeze levels dropping too, no more rain in resort please!
It's looking good right across the Italian Alps for anyone heading out Christmas weekend with new snow in most resorts over the last 2 days, Passo Tonale & Bormio reported 50cm of new snow today!

Thanks in advance

Arabba is reporting 15 cm of fresh snowfall for today!!! That is a bit of a surprise as only 2cm of sleetiness was forecast!!! Could be on the Marmolada glacier I suppose.
http://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en-US/1971EN.html
After no significant snowfall across most the Dolomites since Xmas weekend, it's looking very hopeful for a welcome snowfall on Monday into Tuesday, possibly around 20cm+ and down to around 1200m, but of course that will vary locally.
http://www.arpa.veneto.it/bollettini/htm/dolomiti_meteo_en.asp
That should freshen things up a bit!
It's forecast to get unseasonably mild as the week progresses, but hopefully there's no precipitation that could fall as rain either!
