Hi all,
Want to get away around 7 Apr and hopefully hit some powder if there is some left somewhere. Any advice on locations, especially on a budget?
Thanks,
Ape

Hi apeman241,
The 7th April is pretty late so you basically have two choices: book now for somewhere snowsure, or wait to the last minute and see.
Snowsure resorts are resorts with glaciers and plenty of skiing above 2000m. It doesn't guarentee fresh powder snow tho unfortunately. A couple to take a look at are Duex Alpes as Pam suggests, Val Thorens, Paradiski (La Plagne + Les Arcs), Espace Killy (Val D'Isere+Tignes).
Happy planning!
Heather

apeman241, if you were looking at Austria I'd add Obertauern, Ischgl or St Anton (staying out of town will save a lot of money in all three). Last minute (so booking a few weeks before) would possibly allow you to see some deals coming up. But obviously easter tends to be quite popular.

fresh powder is never guaranteed, but my unscientific observation suggests it's as likely in early April as any other time, though it won't hang around long at lower altitudes.

Whitegold, powder in April in Japan can happen. So can rain. Just like anywhere else.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Don't hold me to this.. but since 2007 we have always had a dump in April... it is always the last fresh of the season and is about 3 days of fresh... last year we played about at a very empty Schladming... obviously no-where can promise dumps at any time though ;-(

Yup I've often been skiing in powder in the Arlberg in April. But maybe the question is wrong? Maybe spring snow or corn is the prize?

Tignes/Val D'Isere - we have been every year for the last 6 years between the 15th April and up to the 2nd May we have had fresh snow and powder every year Yes even last year when snow was really poor at the end of the season There was still fresh snow in Le Fornet

But seriously, predicting powder is pretty nigh impossible in Europe, at least at that time of year.
Any way, by then one wants to be skiing massive slushy bumps and if getting the timing right, creamy corn. Forget powder, ir's panda eyes we want.

Thanks for all the replies. Wasnt expecting anybody to predict powder dumps, especially in Europe. I was probably thinking further afield; I'm assuming most of the north American resorts will still have decent coverage at the beginning of April.

From my experience, if Easter falls early (in March), then maybe a bit more so, but by April everyone seems to be done with skiing as it can be in the 70s (or warmer) in Denver and all the front rangers are on their bikes, playing golf, etc.
Unlike some European destination resorts, the Summit County resorts tend to be most busy on the weekends and less busy on the weekdays virtually the whole season. The week between x-mas and NY is the one real exception. Spring Break (generally mid-March) can also be a bit busier on weekdays, but nothing compared to French Holidays in the F Alps.
