Poster: A snowHead
|
We are going to Selva in late Feb/early March and my 4 year old daughter will be skiing for the first time. She will just have afternoon lessons and I wanted to be sure she had the right kit, (and to add anything expensive to her Christmas list!).
I have got her the standard stuff (jacket, salopettes, tops, gloves, socks, neck warmer). I'm not bothering with thermals as she will be staying pretty much at village level.
Is it best to hire a helmet or buy? Will she then need goggles rather than glasses? Couldn't see any helmets in our local Lidl which is a shame as I've heard they are good value.
I read that she may not need ski boots but snow boots will suffice - surely these do not fit with skis? Unless they clip on? I just wanted to be sure we got a sturdy pair of snow boots if this is the case.
Excuse the ignorance. This is our first ski trip with (skiing) children. I also suspect my 2 year old may want to get on skis too!

All children in Italy have to wear helmets. When you hire skis/boots then helmets are usually included for free.

Does your daughter wear glasses normally? If she does you will need goggles which can take normal glasses, otherwise consider sunglasses. Be very very careful with children's eyes in the mountains though, they are very sensitive.
Helmet is a given these days, see Margaret's answer. Can't see a problem with hire helmets.
She will use proper skis and ski boots but no poles. Hire these.
Gloves, think about inner gloves too as kids hands can get very cold.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Hayls, throw a couple of pairs of tights or leggings in her case just in case she does need any extra layer.
Attach gloves/mitts to a long elastic and thread it through the jacket. You can DIY this or get a 'Manbi glove glue'.

My kids like the Aldi/Lidl helmets better than Decathlon ones.

Get her thermals! It cab be just as cold (or colder) at village level than up the mountain.
Enjoy
