roga, for flights the choice is a "direct" flight with BMI (there is a short stop in Almaty but you don't change planes) or Aeroflot via Moscow. No prizes for guessing which one I chose!

Take as much camera gear as you can please and make sure and use it lots.
Is it all hiking/skinning in to the mountains or are there any kind of lift systems in place (like gulmarg)?

shoogly, apparently there is a resort where we may have a warm-up day but we will spend most the time in a yurt earning our turns
we are going with 40 Tribes as linked by roga. offpisteskiing is organising - should be an interesting trip
