Poster: A snowHead

Ok, i'm an intermediate skier of about 10 weeks skiing with no huge desire to do lots of off piste, just enjoy cruising reds and the odd black very occasionally.
I had a good deal on a pair of X wing 8s and couldn't resist. I know people don't like the composite cores but has anyone used these. Will they be ok on piste for a couple of years??

Yes, I reckon fine. I bought some Xwing 6s at a good deal to do a Warren Smith Ski Academy course because I did not really know what I wanted - I had previously had Salomon Equipe 2m long and narrow jobs. They were a good intermediate All Terrain ski, and the 8s should be much the same. On another course, I needed something more All Mountain and got longer Salomon Lords. Sold Xwings for purchase price less 2 weeks ski rental.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

emwmarine, ...we've got a heap of X wings in the garage and they have been skied within an inch of their lives; boy, are they beaten up. THey have been up hill and down dale and their dreadful synthetic cores, God bless em, have remained perfect - these abused skis have perfect camber and are absolutely brilliant. They should be more than fine. Of course I prefer wood cores; of course they have more predictable flex and pop, but compared with the first terrible versions of synth cores, the X wings seem to run and run. I have a much loved pair of salomon scrambler 400 rock/day skis, and they are falling to bits (de-lam etc) but the cores remains good, and the camber excellent - and these have been completely abused...others may have different stories (the crossmax was notoriously bad - referred to as the 'crossmerde' by some technicians)....
