 Poster: A snowHead

I have been thinking of getting one, but there are several types on the market-- and as I've never used one before, I'm wondering if it's worth getting one...
Someone crashed into me some years ago, and that's what made me aware that it may be better to be safe than sorry!

I think the key thing, like most protective equipment, is it has to fit properly. Too long and it can stick up at the back and actually cause neck injuires

gryphea, thanks, good point. I suppose best to try on in a shop and not buy it online...
But what you say, makes me think it could slip and cause neck injury, on impact?

when i bought one a few years ago i spent alot of time trying them on. making sure they fit under your ski jacket and you can still have full upper body mobility. the feel with a backpack on as well.
That being said some of the bag manufacturers have bags with built in protectors. I dont like them as one your bag can rip off in a big fall. When in the park you wont have a bag on. You also loose lower spine protection.
In the end i went for a slytech 2nd skin and absolutely love it.

Not sure your fear of being hit will be helped by a back protector awareness of what is going on around you all of the time is a better bet.

extremerob, thanks, yes-- I also tried on a few when I bought my helmet, and they all felt bulky and not very comfortable. slytech 2nd skin sounds good--will investigate.

I don't know what you were trying, but all those I have ski with them, don't feel anything after minute. I have used Ortema (too expensive and too complicated to get for normal skiing), POC and Dainese, and neither of them was "bulky and uncomfortable". Once you put it under your jacket, only time you remember you have it on is, when you lean back on chairlift and you don't feel cold chair on your back

Julieanne, my son wears the Dainese 'soft' one, junior one but they do an adult one too, never any complaints and he would be the first to complain if something wasn't comfortable
