Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

My original post, that I've now amended, read as follows:
Quote:
Does anybody (eg
Sledger
) know whether The Cheviots is looking like a goer for ski touring over easter weekend? Have they had much snow in the recent wintry spell?
Never been (in snow cover) but have quite fancied it since Sledger supplied a suggested route a while ago.
Cheers!
However, I've now just seen
Moffatross'
Glentrool report - which could be another possibility.....as could the Lake District (Raise/Helvellyn?), Pennines (Cross Fell?) - or anywhere else
.
Can anybody suggest any decent potential routes within a few hours of North East England

, did the Cheviots collect a lot of snow ? Could be worth looking at some webcams in the daylight ...

Getting to Glentrool in Galloway is a long drive, even from Moffat (nearly 2 hours) and if you pass Cross Fell on the way it might look good but I'd reckon the Lakes would be an even better bet as they were far enough west to benefit fully from Friday's weather front. There is a recent thread on UKC with a couple of suggestions ....

With a bit of luck, some of the recent lower level snow may have transformed from storm packed slab into nice spring stuff by then, perfect for hero turns.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Keep an eye on Yad Moss and Weardale, given the huge drifts around there could be some very good opportunities

, I would say the cheviots would definitely be worth a look given some half decent weather. I was up a couple of weeks ago and there was still a fair bit of old snow about but the skiing was not great-very hard packed/icy.
In clear weather I can see the hills from my window but I can't really gauge how much has fallen up there at the moment, I would expect a good amount and some good skiing in the wind loaded gulleys and hollows, I will certainly be heading up given the right conditions in the next week or so.
I have attached a link to some photos from a previous trip (feb 2nd) to give you an idea what its like

Cross Fell could be very good although I haven't skiied there I noted the possibilities when walking from Great Dun Fell to Cross Fell.
Also have you considered Raise? you could combine a tour with some 'lift served' skiing in the lakes!
