Why are they so expensive?
Transfer from Chambery to Les Arcs is going to cost more than our flights. As the transfer time is only 1.5 hours I'm struggling with the math.
I dont have a problem with a shared transfer if I can find one...had a look at Alti Bus as we've done that before but the flight times dont work with the bus transfer times.

Shimmy Alcott, E mail the folks at www.ski4funtransfers.co.uk they are snowHeads and Im sure will try to help.
If you check their site and all the licences they have to hold to operate legally across France and into Switz, you will begin to appreciate the costs involved.

Shimmy Alcott, I'd say it is partly because you are paying for a return journey, since the taxi is unlikely to pick up a fare after ddropping you off in resort, but the airline expects to sell the seats when you're not in them.
Depending on how many of you there are, you could probably hire a car for less - I think we paid about £250 last year to get a C3 Picasso for a week from Chambery airport (booked in advance).

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

There is a much cheeper option : get the taxi to Chambery railway station then get the train to Bourg st Maurice and funicular from there. Check times on SNCF web site

johnE, they have two little ones and quite a bit of luggage I would think - so train is probably not ideal.

You know it makes sense.

johnE, I will look into that as an option, thanks.
Nadenoodlee, youngest is getting a Trunki for Christmas - she can carry her own luggage
