There is apparently plans for a massive store to be opened in Edinb. Would be Scotland's largest technical snow sports retailer.

Kiltedlad, I really can't believe that you can't find what you're looking for in the whole of Scotland! bit of a sweeping statement!
There's a massive selection available within the central belt alone. even more when you venture up to Aviemore, Aberdeen, Fort Bill etc.
What are you looking for?

You know it makes sense.

You mention Salomon. Go Outdoors (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Coatbridge, Inverness) always have that brand and numerous others.

A good, independent, knowledgeable shop with interesting stock is missing from central Scotland IMO.

That'll be Freeze then? Granted, they do specialise in the freestyle side of things, but it's a skiers/boarders shop run by skiers/boarders. Would be nice of them to get some less dayglo stuff in though, but then again, that's available in 2 shops less than .5 miles from them.
Don't understand why it needs to be independent. Was in EB at Braehead yesterday and they have an amazing range of stuff there this season and every single person I spoke to in that store was knowledgeable, friendly, and very obviously into their snowsports. Skis are in getting repaired with them and will go in again in future.

Must agree with the above - Freeze Pro Shop for Fashion or Blues for... well for want of a better term 'sensible' gear in Edinburgh. Boardwise have a branch on Lady Lawson St that sits somewhere in the middle clothing wise. I count Blues as an independent - how big does Tiso group have to be before you stop calling them so? Nevis just down the road worth a look to price check and then there's Go Outdoors / TK Maxx and soon Decathlon for the budget end.
Not seen much by way of Glasgow shops but I know Blues have another concession, there's another branch of boardwise, and Brighams in Braehead is massive!

Kiltedlad, you couldn't by any chance have gone to the 'wrong' Ellis-Brigham at the Braehead Xscape? They've got a shop there for mountaineering and trekking and a separate shop for skiing and snowboarding.

Decathlon are opening in the big former JJB warehouse at Hermiston Gate next to Tesco.

shoogly, I've emailed Freeze a few times, once actively asking them to keep me skis I wanted to buy and the other times with questions, and never received a response
EB at Braehead isn't bad but the range of skis is reasonably poor and I've had an awful boot fitting experience there in the past.
All the ski shops lack something, again, only in my opinion.

Alans deep bath, had nothing but good service from them, apart from once going in and expecting them to stock everything they sell on line and the Saturday lad couldn't care less. Think I commented on here at the time about it. Not seen him in there since though. Their warehouse is located a wee bit away and they keep that stock there.
They do know their stuff though and any time i've had my skis serviced there I've been happy. They do have a good selection of skis for the more off piste stuff.
Shame if they've let themselves down on simple things like replying to emails etc.

shoogly, good to hear they are decent in the shop. I still think you can get most of what you want if you're wiling to browse a few shops but I still think there's somewhere good missing. Mountain Spirit in Aviemore is quality but really geared towards touring etc.

So, what we need is the equivalent to REI in Seattle... now, that's the best store I've been to!
