La Folie Douce is amazing, Apres is a French word

Oh God, even worse than the Austrian stuff. My poor ears. (French chansonniers are a different ball game altogether, but not really conducive to getting rat-arsed and deaf half-way down a ski slope.)

I had to look that up and I think you're right, they're really not.

But I do agree with Samerberg Sue, Georges Brassens was the tops. I learned a suprising amount of French vocab listening to his songs as a child.

rob@rar, hahaha, I just looked it up on wikipedia. An extremely specialised definition which doesn't account for the word being used for people like Brassens, Mouloudji, Piaf, Brel, Montand, Aznavour, Greco, oh there are so many of them. In other words, singers of songs - which the French are very good at.

Perhaps they are, but as creators of popular music they suck
(Notable exception being St Germain, IMvHO)

A few years ago whilst I was in France on a skiing holiday I spent the latter half of the evening in the apartment watching a programme on the history of french rock and pop. It was, unintentionally, hilarious.

+1
I like French music - particularly stuff from school and uni days (MC Solar, Cassius, Air, Daft Punk etc.). When we moved here we got the DJ at our leaving party to do a French session (including the odd burst of Serge Gainsbourg, Edith Piaf and of course the classic Joe le Taxi) - it went down a treat. Oh well, no accounting for taste I guess!

mmm... crispy bacon for breakfast I think.
Yes, good stuff old and new. There is a quite a sweet "rock" night in our village in the summer, with three or four French bands playing... the location is fantastic, acres of space under a floodlit cliff... we are determined to set up a dance tent one year.
