Ischgl is ace (good offpiste, good park if you care about that, great party), and with all the Russians about word is that tips are good. If I had to pay for a holiday in Austria the only place I've skied so far that I'd rank above it is St Anton. I've never skied in France so can't compare with ADH.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If its sex you are after then go for Ischgl.
Nightlife ischgl, especially just after skiing.
Skiing marginal, but ischgl shades it.
Great touring around Ischgl if you get the time.
welcome to snowheads.

i'm looking at the whole package... skiing, nightlife, general atmosphere, the seasoniers, the visitors... how would it compare to somewhere like val or verbs?

It's mostly Germans and Austrians so if you don't want to be surrounded by Brits it's a cracking place to go. The place is class go for it.

if you like long remote off piste runs with little competition for tracks, ADH might be a good option.
if you want to drink, Ischgl would probably win (I haven't been but, while ADH has a few OK bars it isn't that great)

After a couple of visits to A d'H & one to Ischgl, for me it would be Ischgl anytime.
Less muppetry, far nicer village, very few Brits wearing jester hats, more reliable snow. By way of example, while A d'H was suffering brown mountain syndrome last Easter, Ischgl was white pretty much from top to bottom.

I'd go for AdH, it is really high with some amazing off piste, pretty big area, I do like plenty of bars showing English football...and my french is better than my German!

You'll be fine in either.
On a completely separate tack - who knows with any authority how to pronounce either of these names ?

You know it makes sense.

AlP dooA by some. As one person I met prescribed "The only good thing to do in Alpe d'huez is leave". But is rated by friends in the ESF as the easiest place to pass the Eurotest.
