Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

First Time Touring Setup

I'm looking to get into a bit of Touring this season and want to put together a touring setup for small tours and sidecountry off piste skiing.

Was wondering if anyone had any recomendations on skis and bindings?

I'm 6 foot 75kg and a good intermediate skier who can get down most things put infront of me.

Most of my skiing is done in Scotland and particualrly Glencoe so i'm not really into piste skiing

Just whack a pair of Dukes/Barons on your current skis, will ski just as well as your alpine binders, but with the flexibility to skin. If you really start to get more into touring you can then look into a more lightweight set-up.

If you are going to try touring and are thinking of getting kit already you might aswell go all the way and get the full set up. It is blinding and you will only waste money on half measures! I highly reccomend Dynafit lo-tech bindings (take a bit of getting used to but light and good), dynafit seven summit skis and 4 buckle stiffish touring boots.
