Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Austria resort like St Foy (France)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Welcome advice on Austrian resorts. Have skied many places in France but never Austria and would like to give it a go. Looking for a place similar to St Foy ie family friendly, good beginner and lower intermediate with off piste/touring possibilities and preferably not too low. (ie the opposite of a large resort with with wide motorway runs).

Kappl, Serfaus, possibly Stuben (especially good for off piste)

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Wagrain, Zauchesee, Hochkönig (Mülbach, Dienten Maria Alm) Großarl, Bad Hofgastein,

The list is endless to be honest. Best to look at some brochures and then come back with some specific questions about a short-list you've made.

There are 344 skiing resorts in Austria but unlike St Foy they groom their piste. If the piste isn't groomed it will be marked clearly as a ski route.

There may be a few places in Austria, but I haven't seen, where the owner can't afford to groom the resort and calls every run a ski route.

In USA at least they are honest about grooming and publish a groom piste map every day. The American are quite keen on off piste which they call back country skiing. However that would be at expert or extreme skiing level and not the beginner and low intermediate off piste you find in St Foy.
