Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Schools Les Arcs 2000

Hi

We have a group of 13 of us going to Les Arcs 2000 at the end of January. Looking for a good English speaking ski school for some private lessons for 2 hours each morning for the various different levels in the group. (We like to all ski together in the afternoons)

I've looked at the following

New Gen seems the obvious choice, but they are based in Vallandry rather than Les Arcs 2000 and their 2hr privates in the morning don't seem to start till 11.30. http://www.skinewgen.com/vallandry/privates.html#

Arc Adventures Also don't seem to do privates in the mornings (12:00 pm to 2:00 pm) http://www.arc-aventures.com/cours_ski.php

Elmer, Spirit 1950 if you're based in Arc 2000 would be my advice.

HiElmer, just opened a new thread for the coming season in Les Arcs over on the snow reports section. As you are coming out in Jan might be worth keeping an eye on that thread as that is where updates about Les Arcs on most topics tend to be posted.

Regarding private lessons in Arc 2000. ESF are good in Arc 2000 and cheaper than Spirit down in Arc 1950, but like all schools it depends who you get, so make sure you ask for an English speaking instructor. They have quite a few. Spirit are also good, but you will pay more. At the end of the day all the French Instructors are trained by the same system and teach in a similar way, some are more fun than others. Going over to Vallandry or Arc 1800 for lessons is a pain from Arc 2000 each day and unless you are doing race training not really worth the effort.

I stayed at arc 2000 last year and we had some private lessons with a guy from Alain, he runs his own private ski school in 1800, I think it's called privilege. He was really good and he will come over and meet you in arc 2000.

Still umming and ahhing which school to go with. My preference would be for a native English speaking instructor if possible as I find it helps when they are trying to convey subtle differences between what you are doing and what they are trying to get you to do.

Yes that's the one, Alain spoke really good english but it wasn't perfect, if that is a criteria for you then I would say look elsewhere.
