Poster: A snowHead

Hi All,
Off to Saalbach next weekend and wondered if anyone had any evening restaurant recommendations? Also looking for some ideas for pre and post dinner drinks, nothing to rowdy, we are not as young as we used to be.
Cheers

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Plenty of nice bars. I can't remember the name, but the one at the bottom of the heated slope (Is it Zum Zum or something?) opposite the old jail is pleasant. For cheap and cheerful, Bobby's bar opposite the Schattberg Lift. They also do kebebs, but you need to be hungry!
Restuarants are not brilliant as I recall. The place on the T of the centre square is probably the best, but I can't remember the name. It is sort of Spanish/Mediterranean in style. The Austrian apres scene is straight off the slopes. The schirm bar (Bauers?) with the red umbrellas is lively.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

worz666, You would be hard to beat Wallners, opposite the Hotel Panther, for a good reasonably-priced menu and the best pizzas in town. Peter's next door is also great, particularly for steaks and the Friday magic show. Many people also enthuse about the Kohlmaisstub'n. The Backstatt is also superb - best for Pinzgau spare ribs and mixed grill. People have commented that Del Rossi is one of the best, although it's not one we tend to use. There are loads (as per my recommendations in the Rough Guide) - anyway we'll see you there!
P.S. Pre-dinner drinks: Hinterhagalm, Bauer's Schialm, Spitzbub, Burgi's, Goassstall. Post-dinner: Bobby's, Steiner's, Kuhstall, Zum Turm, Spitzbub - or any of the 4* hotels if you like a more up-market refined atmosphere.

Strange! Just as well there are other options, e.g Peters, Backstattstalle, Kohlmaisstubn, etc.,,,or are they closed as well?!

The sign in the window says "Derzit wegen Betriebsurlaub geschlossen!!!". Been to Del Rossi and enjoyed it. Also Glemmerhoff down the valley and La Piazza in Saalfelden. There's plenty to keep us going.......

Strange that they should take their holiday in prime summer holiday season - however it's a great stand-by in winter, and they generally give us a friendly welcome and a complimentary schnapps with the bill, so no complaints from me!
I've heard good things about Del Rossi, although we don't tend to go there - must make a point of it next time.

I would be surprised if a skier doesn't get a decent meal in any of the Austria resorts. The problem with Saalbach could only be too many choices. Many Austrian restaurants also serve meals of bigger size than others too and I cannot recall being ripped off even once.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

....except maybe for wine. If you want wine with the meal, it helps to know where to go and where to avoid!

This is our fourth visit to Saalbach - and we've only just discovered the Shattberg Stube'n. didn't realise there was a lovely restaurant behind the burgers / hot dog cafe at the front.

chrisdavis, Never judge a book by its cover!
(...although those fast food places do at times have their uses)
Have a great time, and I hope the weather is kind. You're making me very envious!
