Poster: A snowHead

Friend is interested in doing SC with family of four in Montgenevre week before Christmas this year.
What are their chances of getting reasonable snow conditions at that time in the season?
Thanks in advance for any info.

i would say pretty good, but check opening date of resort i think last year it was Dec14th, but not all lift were brought online until Christams week itself
but the snow generally starts dumping there in November.
not sure if the package tours start that early, but there are smaller companies who could arrange it for you
the Hameau apts are really good too see my earlier reports on my trip there

Having had an eye on this area for the past 5 years with 3 christmas trips I would say the conditions are highly likely to be good. Good snowmaking adds to natural snowfall that in the last 5 years there has always been sufficient snow for the opening of the resort.

We have been at Christmas/New Year several times and always had good snow, although obviously, the ability to predict good snow would be a fantastic money maker if anyone could do it with reasonable accuracy!!
I love Montgenevre and would happily go back

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

We were there over xmas 2010, where we woke up to fresh snow almost every day. The pistes actually became quite difficult because of all the powder and poor visibility through the snow.
When we got back home I was amazed to read that almost everywhere else in Europe hadn't been anywhere near as lucky with snow and many places (including Serre Che, not far down the road) had some rain too.
Before booking I did look into a whole heap of historical weather stats to pick where to go, also considering height, direction of slopes, current conditions (it was a last minute booking), snowmaking facilities etc and Montgenevre won out of all my options. I've deleted my little excel spreadsheet and scoring system now, which is a shame because it would have been handy for others.
Would certainly consider going back there again too.

Generally lots of snow falling that week. Snow depth: Average about 50/65 cm lower slopes and 95/115 cm upper (start and end of week).

Last year they opened 10 days early on the 4th December as there was so much snow.
