As many as 80% of Bulgarians are opposed to the construction of new hotels, ski tracks and sports facilities in the country's protected high mountains areas. This was the result of a poll conducted by Alpha Research at the end of May, at the request of the World Wildlife Fund. Developments are planned in areas such as Rila, Pirin, Stara Planina, Vitosha and the Rhodope Mountains. But, over construction is creating serious problems for the natural environment in Bulgaria, such as air and water pollution, and forest deststruction.
