Poster: A snowHead

Hi, I'm looking to fly out to Canada for my first season this winter (most likely Fernie or Kicking Horse) and securing work and accommodation is my main priority.
I just need some general advice from anyone who is familiar with Canadian ski resorts.
Which is likely to be more beneficial, applying for jobs online and waiting for a response, or flying out prior to the beginning of the season to talk to employers face to face? If so, when is the best time to fly out? I'm prepared to go as early as it takes to sort out a job and a place to stay. How likely are employers to provide accommodation in relation to a lower wage? Working full or part time isn't a concern as long as I can make enough to live, pay the rent and buy food.
Lot of questions but this is my first time out and any advice would be greatly appreciated. - Ali, UK.

Can't help much but given the choice of living in Fernie or Golden I would choose Fernie..

You won't get far online for jobs in Canada - the ski hills run job fairs pre-season. I don't know of anywhere in Fernie that provides accommodation, either. http://fernie.com/survival_guide/intro.html has some pretty useful advice!

Hey, I just did my first season at kicking horse and had an incredible time, golden has a really good vibe to it, it is really friendly and isn't too commercialised! If you are a good skier who is confident skiing off-piste and bumps, they don't do a lot of grooming here, there really is nowhere like it!
In relation to getting a job, they do most of their recruiting online and that usually starts in September for a early December start. Having said that I would still recommend getting there early November to secure a job, I got their beginning of December and didn't get a job till mid Jan, after going though most of my funds!
They do not offer staff accommodation, but most people go to the hostel at first find a group of buddy's and get a house/room with them.
In all honesty though you will undoubtedly have an awesome time regardless of the resort you choose!
