My shiny new Salomon 3Vs have just been delivered by the parcel delivery man!! So excited!
Now I need to take them to Slush & Rubble to get the boundings mounted...unless anyone can recommend another "Salomon approved dealer" in Manchester who would better appreciate my custom?

Oh, and don't forget to phone them before hand, as they may have their ski servicing gear put away for the summer.

beanie1, then, I'd add to the list: don't forget to tell them what the ski and binding is - not sure about the plates on the current 3Vs, so a jig may be necessary.

beanie1, If you want to support an independant store then how about a trip to the Lakes, less than an hours drive from Manchester.

Take a look at the skis and see if they have holes already drilled in the plate.
If they do, you can fit them yourself or someone could do it for you next Monday.

Alpenstock is my local shop, they're ok. not much more I can say than that. If you have pilot bindings, I'd be tempted to ft them yourslef if you have any mechanical aptitude, otherwise give alpenstock a go

nbt, the drawback of fitting bindings yourself is that if you have an accident due to bindings malfunctioning, you won't have any recourse.
I had a faulty pair of Salomon 810ti bindings, and took them back to the shop. Immediately exchanged, fitted etc.
(Also, if you get the shop to do it, they can set your DIN, toe height, etc, there and then)

nbt, have you fitted bindings yourself? It's many a moon since I worked in a ski shop - getting on for 30 years, in fact - but even then we used all sorts of specialised drill bits, taps for the holes, jigs etc. etc.
The risks of getting a hole just a tiny bit out of alignment, or a hole too deep, could be expensive.
I'm not necessarily saying it can't be done, but I can't recall meeting a skiing buddy who's done it.

Had to get bindings fitted by Salomon dealer in ored for warranty to be valid, so took them to S&R. £25!! What a rip off for a 10 min job.

beanie1, ah the infamous davy mercer "deal". Good prices, and every time i talk to someone they have a new del-boy type story about him.
He normally manages to get some skis really on the cheap from the factotry such as graphic cock-ups etc. I have seen a pair of "3v Slalom skis" that are really the GS skis with the wrong topsheet.
For everyone else, i don't have a number to hand, but the company is "Salomon/Taylor Made" if you want to call them with a good enough reason why you should get a discount for any kit.

Not sure it's quite the same thing... Around July each year we get sent out a whole pile of glossy brochures with next year's kit at knock down prices. Ski wise we get deals from Salomon, Rossi, movement and Stockli. Plus various other bits and pieces.
Certainly no dodgy graphics on my shiny new skis!

beanie1, The BASI deals are actually worthwhile, and good to here they are offering more choices to their members.
Are they still offering to get race stock GS skis for those going for their eurotest, or is that still an unpublished special request?
Of course the best place to get the real prices is to go to soltex or even ispo.

I considered the Rossi 9S and the Stockli slalom (can't remember exactly what it's called), purely as those are the 3 I can get deals on. I settled on the 3V as I am female, light and not that aggressive, although most people I spoke to thought the Rossi was the better ski. Sorry, I know nothing about the Elan SLX.

I was told the SLX was a better ski than 9's and I have tried them both but not in the same conditions so I reserve judgement here.
I loved the 9s on hard pack and would think the SLX would be just as good fun here. Not sure about them in a racing context.

JT, beanie1, I skied the SLX at MK on Thu and really really loved them. So fast, powerful and grippy. It was a little icy there but I had no problems holding the edge at all. I need to try the 3v and the 9s now.
