I wondered if anyone had any comments on the relative merits of SVG and C?
eg. snow sureness for mid Feb.
Also interested to know how driveable to these resorts are in Feb. Would winter tyres suffice, or are snow chains essential?

thewinelake, Canazei is on the south facing side of Sella Ronda, so the very limited pistes back to town are more likely to get slushy/bare/closed, and many download at the end of the day. Selva is on the north west corner, and has more runs to town, and nursery slopes in town itself. Aside from that they both access the Sella Ronda area, with potential to explore elsewhere as well. Selva and the Sella Ronda do get pretty busy. We have driven to Selva in late January (very snowy year), winter tyres were pretty much essential, we just managed without putting chains on, but you definitely need them as a backup.

Needed chains in Campitello, but that was mainly to get out of the hotel and down the hill. Winter tyres essential imho, and chains as backup. The bonus for both resorts is that there's no passes (as such) to go over between the Autostrada and destination - just drive up valley.
Convenience of Canazei is that if you fancy doing Marmolada, you can do so early, and beat all the hordes. Couple of cable cars less waiting time, and empty run back down.

Selva is more convenient as the pistes run back into town at the same places the lifts leave from.
In Canazei there is only one run back down and that gets to be a bit of a race track late in the day, and then you have to walk down quite a steep hill to the town (lots of people slip over) and then walk back to the lift station (there is a roadtrain, but I've never managed to get on it). Depending on where you are staying it can be quicker and quieter to use the cable car from Campitello instead. One advantage of Canazei is you can easily visit the smaller resorts of the Val di Fassa easily (well worth doing) which you are unlikely to do if staying elsewhere.
One thing to note is that whilst the roads between the sella ronda resorts are generally kept open in winter, then can be very slippery and do sometimes close for a few days so it's not a good idea to drive to a different valley if snow is likely that day.

Both of the areas would be pretty snow sure in mid February. I think the Val Di Fassa area probably gets a bit more snow than the Val Gardena area. However as someone has already mentioned, you have the Marmolada glacier nearby to Canazei for guaranteed snow. If your driving then the val gardena valley is probably a bit easier to access from the motorway than Val Di Fassa, especially if your coming from the Brenner pass. One advantage of Val Di Fassa though is that the accomodation is generally cheaper than in Val gardena.

In which case you are right on the Sella Ronda circuit and won't need to ski down into Canazei itself - but you might want to drive down sometimes for some apres.
