When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Arsonists cause extensive damage at artificial ski slope

The ski centre at Gosling Sports Park, near Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, has been extensively damaged by arsonists setting fire to equipment.

Commercial director Mark Lenihan said: "The vandals had dragged the high jump landing mat all the way from the athletics track to the ski slope and had set fire to this causing massive destruction.

"This is the worst act of vandalism since I have been here."

This is awful. I used to be a member of a running club that was based here and was only there the other week. The effort that they went to is staggering. The athletics track is within a cycling velodrome, down a hill and more than 100 yards from the ski-slope. Utterly mindless and completely pointless. I hope they catch the vandals!
