Poster: A snowHead

We're off to Les Gets for a week over x-mas 2011 and I would like to arrange lessons for my youngest daughter who will be 4 months short of her 4th birthday when we go.
This will be her 1st full week skiing and having had a bad experience with my older daughters 1st week ( - I think I chose the wrong school!) I would like to get some advice as to who to book with in Les Gets.
Can anyone recommend a ski school in Les Gets that a) will take my daughter under 4 years old and b) specialises in lessons for younger children?
As far as I can see, the ESF takes kids from 3 but I've had read mixed reviews about ESF generally. I have had very good experiences with an ESI school in Switzerland but the local ESI in Les Gets seems to take kids only from 4?
Any help will be very much appreciated.

1556garyt,
Don´t know how practical it would be to get up to Avoriaz every morning for 9.30 (prob not with 2 small children!), but would recommend the Village de Enfants. Just returned and our 2 girls really enjoyed their time there (they are older tho, 8 and 10). There were lots of little ones there in a safe and secure environment and the staff were great.

1556garyt, have a look at this https://www.britishskischool.com/morzine/courses.htm
We've used them in the past (very successfully) for older kids but their "parent and child" classes for 3 and 4 year olds sound perfect, with some reassuring parental presence initially.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Club Piou Piou (ESF) takes children from 3 but in my experience it's a rare Brit 3 year old who makes it to the end of a week. My suggestion would be a couple of short and sweet taster sessions with either of the options mentioned above (LGS and BASS) and/or some time with her on the nursery runs yourselves.

Hi 1556garyt,
It may be sensible to do some prep work before you go to Les Gets. I know the snow slopes in the UK do snow play taster sessions for youngsters. This may not actually include skiing but what it will do is build up some confidence in your daughter around snow. I guess you would be limited dependent upon location.
That way your almost 4 yr will at least be perfectly happy getting stuck in when you get to France rather than being nervous of this new environment that she's never really experienced before.
I personally would steer clear of parents & kids lessons. It is my opinion that your daughter is more likely to get stuck in more without her Mum or Dad around worrying about her. I know the instructors usually prefer Mum & day to be off enjoying themselves somewhere else so that said youngster can enjoy themself.
Good luck & enjoy your tip.

Thanks all - will definately be taking my daughter to Hemel before the holiday at x-mas.
I have booked my daughter (and her friend) onto a Teeny Tots course with British Ski School is Les Gets. See: www.britishskischool.com
In fact there are only X2 kids booked on that course at the moment, so if there are any of 3 or 4 year olds out there (!) wanting to join a beginners course for 5 days starting on Tuesday the 19th December 2011 for 5 days, either PM me or contact BASS directly.

Teeny Tot Beginner Course
We believe that this mini group with a maximum of 4 children is the best way to engage pre-school age children with skiing for the first time. The goal of this course is to introduce children of 3 & 4 yrs old to skiing and the mountain environment, allowing them to fall in love with skiing.
Skiing for the first time can be a daunting experience for young children with clumpy boots, heavy skis and unfamiliar clothing, gloves and helmets etc. Our qualified and experienced teachers will direct a mixture of play and learning activities designed to engage the children in skiing. |
