Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sauze D'oulx: Accommodation & reccomendations for bars and food....

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello, all

I'm off to Sauze with some friends in January - wondered if anyone had any reccomendations for where to stay.

We're not going on a 'package, and so far we've just got the flights. We're going from Wednesday-monday, so need somewhere that'll do those odd days.

It's a boy's trip, so we don't need a lovely 'spa' and fluffy towels, just somewhere warm and central, preferably with a good breakfast...

Any suggestions? Oh, and any bar/restaurant suggestions gratefully received, too!

I stayed at the Hotel Stella Alpina when I went to Sauze. Very convenient for lifts - across the road from Clotes and just a short walk or one or two stops on the bus to the main chair. Very nice to ski back to at the end of the day too - literally across the road to the boot room from the end of the slopes. The rooms are basic but clean, the bar good and the staff friendly. Food was OK although they are a hotel so don't do 'chalet board' with wine included. Would definitely recommend it. I think they are back in the Neilson book this year but have been doing independent travel too over the last few years.

Thanks, all, very useful. Will certainly have a look at Derby, Gran Trun and Stella alpina.

A bit worrying about the potential lack of snow, though!!!

Hi, went to Sauze last year in January. Lots of snow. Stayed at the Gran Baita - rubbish food, rock hard beds (Crystal - what was I thinking?!). Ate a very good lunch at the Del Falco and in Sestriere at a local-run place in the precinct. I advise any equipment hire is done at the bottom of an appropriate lift unless you are very close and like walking uphill with skis.

In the end have got some cheap and cheerful self-catering flats, allegedly in a very central location - works out about £25 each a night, (just accommodation) so we'll see what it's like - will check out the Del Falco and the Cotton Club - thanks for all the replies and advice!
