Have just arranged a last minute visit to Tignes (staying in Lavachet), and am leaving this Thursday!
I've been to Tignes a couple of times - but have never driven, so looking for a little advice.
- Snow-chains - is it compulsory to have them this late in the season? Should I pay the extra for them from the Hire car company?
- Planning on trying to find some free parking down in Les Boisses - but this depends how late at night we get into resort. So, if we end up having to stick in one of the paid car parks in Lavachet, is it a matter of just driving in and taking a ticket from the barrier - or do we need to pre-book in order to park?
Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I'm not having any luck with the search function today.

I wouldn't hire chains. If you need them you can stop off at Roady or one of the supermarkets in Bourg and pick them up for about 30 euros for average tyres.

Cos' they are bound to be open and just across the road when you need them.

Having just driven back from Les Arcs, I'd say the chances of actually needing them are zero. Not sure what the law is though

If you move to a free spot (ie Les Boisses or Les Brevieres) one night in a pay car park will cost you 15 euros. It's worth noting that you get two hours free - which is ideal for unloading/loading on arrival/departure day, depending on timings of course.

Agree with this.
Almost got the car fitted with winter tyres three weeks ago for our Easter trip. Would have been money wasted. I would say little or no chance of needing snow chains unless temperature drops dramatically and there is a huge dump of snow. Temperatures of 25C were being recorded in the valley in the last fortnight.
The Super U in Bourg clears the snow chains from its shelves at this time of year. Couldn't see any out on display last week.

Very unlikely you'll need them - just keep an eye on the weather forecasts in case of a dramatic change. where are you hiring the car from?
