Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Swiss troubleshooter flies in to fix Australian ski lift

An incident at the Australian ski resort of Mount Hotham, involving a skier falling while boarding a chairlift, has resulted in a Swiss expert being despatched to repair the damage.

The woman involved suffered a head injury. The chairlift was derailed and suffered cable damage.

As a result, a Swiss engineer is flying to the resort today to splice 2 metres of the cable and retension the system. He is said to be one of only 10 people in the world qualified to do this specific repair.

This report from ABC News Online

Of course the Swiss normally would just replace the entire cable however if the cable is fairly new I can understand why they wouldn't want to do this, it is a difficult job because the cable has to be kept close enough to its normal diameter to feed through the drive system which is going to be very difficult to accomplish

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I don't understand. I thought all lifts used cables which had to be spliced to produce a loop. Are there really only 10 people who can do this?

Alastair, I think the problem is that they are cutting out a section of cable and replacing it on site, this is not something that is normally carried out

Whether there are or there aren't, there don't appear to be any Australians up to it!
