Paid out after 4 months and many many chasing calls.
Is this normal?

Dr John, it depends very much on the insurer, and the nature and size of the claim I think.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Dr John,
I have had two claims one took 6 weeks to pay out, only after I said I would drive up to farnborough to meet them at their offices!
The other with Dogtag took 14 calendar days.
Both were for similar amounts. Both were from La Plagne and Moutier Hospital.

Hells Bells, €600 medical expenses for ACL rupture (Xrays, consultation, brace, painkillers, anti flams). Straightforward injury, no 3rd party involved, claim registered immediately etc.
I had problems with the insurer from the start eg; they asked me to find my own way to Grenoble airport, claimed they didn't have any contracts with private transport companies from my resort. The resort was Val d'Isere. Also they had no French speakers available. Considering they advertise as specialist ski insurers I found this somewhat surprising. The whole process has been painful (literally), with me having to chase them for updates, them never once having initiated contact, even when I didn't know how I was getting home the night before my scheduled return. I'm minded never to use them again, just wondering if I'll get better service from another company (obviously hope I won't have cause to)
Boredsurfing, I very nearly got Dogtag, but changed my mind cos it was a bit more expensive. Oh how I chuckled at my own penny pinching when I was having my 4th conversation with the company at 10pm before the morning of departure still trying to find out when and where and with whom I was departing, only to be told that the lady I had spoken to the previous 3 times had gone off shift and left no notes.

Dr John, we had medical expenses of about £1,000 paid out within a month and had our excess of £50 refunded as we'd used the EHIC card in the hospital (the claimed expenses were from the Medical Centre). This was with Direct Travel, they were extremely helpful whilst we were out there and we didn't have to make any chasing calls once home.

Dr John, if I can find it I do have thread on my husbands insurance claim with Direct Travel. Not hassle free, but it wasn't a straightforward claim either. I think it took about 6 weeks to settle. However, I couldn't fault the assistance we received in France. They liased with medical staff, sorted ambulance transfer to airport, dealt directly with ambulance transfer from Briancon to Grenoble, and sorted me a taxi back to Serre Chevalier from Grenoble after hubby's op. Most of the medical costs involved were claimed back from UK social security if you used your EHIC card, so their financial liability wasn't huge. Actual cost of op and hospital care was in the tens of thousands.

Dr John, I don't know if it's the general attitude or that Dog Tag is highly regarded but we certainly had no problems in La Plagne or down in Moutier.
The hospital in Moutier seemed more than happy with the EHIC card and only took Dog Tag details when an overnight stay was required.

Dr John, IIRC snowcard took about 4 weeks for everything to come through, a few years back - - they may have been quicker, because I don't remember them being unreasonable. And when I had an achilles tendon go (hence my snowheads name), they forked out for a taxi (which they sorted out) for me and a companion from Alpe D'Huez to Grenoble, four seats on easyjet (3 for me, 1 for companion), and a car with a 'medical technician' to take me from Gatwick to Lincolnshire. Pretty good, I thought. I too got a discount for using E11/EHIC (whichever applied at the time) with prescriptions (not applicable with the doctor, who was outside the scheme).

achilles, nice, that's the sort of treatment I was expecting. They (eventually) sorted the same Easyjet arrangement as yourself. The taxi to the airport, however, had to be sourced and arranged by the hotel staff. Big shout-out to Mark Warner Hotel Moris staff, who were aghast that I was left to my own devises. The hotel manager had never, in many season work with almost weekly injuries, heard of a badly injured guest being told to make their own way to the airport. I didn't get the car home at the other end either. Must say I received excellent care was from the Easyjet staff; first on the flight, special lift thingy at Luton, and wheelchair through the airport. They didn't even charge me for the Sunday Times I swiped from the plane. They did leave my (and many other) skis at Grenoble, but you can't have everything.

Mine got paid out about 1month later and IIRC apologising for the delay in sending it (I didn't chase at all). That was with Egg. However it was also just the medical expenses which weren't huge.

Think next time I'll use the travel insurance I get free with my bank, extended to cover snow sports if necessary. My rational being at least they have a vested interest in providing me good service.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Should be getting my money any day now from when I broke my ankle at the end of November. One or two delays (no claim form received, e-mail not received when I tried chasing it up from abroad). They've even paid up for my excess baggage when flying back, don't ask, don't get
