Poster: A snowHead
|
I bought this pack and have used it for less than six weeks. I did a lot of research into the bag because it was quite a lot of money. The bag now has gaping holes where the components have rubbed on the fabric. The Pieps system is excellent and I cannot fault that. However, Black Diamond have used inferior fabric where it should have been more robust around the components. The bag has a warranty and the shop where I bought it could see from my pics that there was clearly a fault. However, Black Diamond says it is 'wear and tear and won't uphold the warranty. I have to draw a line under this and buy another pack, but I wanted to warn others. Avoid this bag and opt for an Arcteryx or Mammut who have interchangeable systems and will honour their warranties.

@Robinson, how long have you had it and was it the shop’s judgement or BD’s?
Mrs U had a 6 year, 300 days use Arc’t jacket replaced at massive discount (they would have repaired for free but no longer carry the particular fabric) because of wear on points that shouldn’t wear.
But our shop wouldn’t make the call, it had to go back to HQ.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hi it was Black Diamond... the shop knew it was faulty and were on our side and did their best. The only places it had worn were the shoulder compartment that held the avalanche trigger and the waist pocket that held the leg strap. It cost nearly £1000 for only six weeks. Arc'teryx definitely treat their customers better.

@Robinson, yeah, pics would help the discussion (if you want a discussion!).
Must say, without being at all familiar with the kit, I don’t see quite how you could wear the trigger and leg strap “garages”. Surely neither are in high wear locations.

I’ve had the 28l version for a year with zero issues , and as above can’t see how they could claim general wear and tear in those areas , pics would be good to see the problem ,

I'm not sure how to upload some pics on here. If I press img it just come up with the words.
Both areas where there are holes are not in wear and tear areas and you can see the shape of the holes is the shape of the components. I've not spoken to Black Diamond direct, but I know the shop were on my side and did their best.

@Robinson, Doesnt sound like fair wear and tear to me, I’d take it to Bradshaw Taylor.
If you can post photos on here you’re doing better than me, have tried in the past and failed miserably! Life’s too short....
Good luck sorting your warranty problem, BD sound wrong on this.

Have you tried their social media pages like Fbook and Instagram. Companies don’t like negative pr on these pages and often respond better here than in email, especially if you gave them photos of the wear areas for others to see.
Not sure where trading standards would stand on this either. 6 weeks use doesn’t sound like reasonable wear and tear to me.
Good luck with it, for that money definitely worth chasing up.

Sorry I cant share the pics... I'm in my mid 50s so I have never used Flickr. I have written honest reviews on as many sites as possible to try to warn others. The UK distributor referred it to the European headquarters who said I could buy a new bag! Thanks for their email though and I will definitely try to speak with them direct because at this point I have nothing to lose. I've sent a message to BD Facebook as you can't post messages or I would shame them. It would not be a huge cost for Black Diamond to have reinforced the pockets that contained the components.

Why haven’t you got your money back from the shop that sold you the backpack and let them argue with Black Diamond?

You know it makes sense.

They never offered, it was Freeze Pro and to be fair I never asked. I've used them for some time and I felt that the fault was the responsibility of the supplier.

@Robinson, I'd take it up with Freeze Pro, your Contract is with them, its up to them to sort with BD. I hadn't realised that you'd not spoken to Freeze Pro.
