Hi there, my name is Ben Moore-Bridger, I'm a journalist with the Evening Standard newspaper in London. I've heard about the terrible news of the avalanche and am hoping to put together a tribute about Mr Whalley, and understand from your post that you knew him.

I read this yesterday and was devastated when I was informed it was Jamie this morning. I only met him a few times and skied with him as well my sincere condolences to his family and friends. Quite simply one of the nicest people you could ever ever meet, young, ridiculously good looking, hugely talented and a fab and highly experienced skier. A lovely Guernseyman and a massive loss to our island community and everyone else who knew him. RIP

 "A British airline pilot was among four people killed when they were buried by a 300ft-wide avalanche in the French Alps, it was revealed today.
Captain James Whalley was swept away by tons of ice and snow at the resort of Val d'Isère. The 32-year-old easyJet pilot and the others were dug out within minutes but the sheer weight of the snow meant their hearts had stopped beating. Mr Whalley's girlfriend Holly Hill, 23, who was planning to join him in France, said the couple had been in touch the night before he died.
She said: “He told me he loved me and was going to bed early. He loved skiing, and always said if he had to go he wished it would be something like this.” He is the third Briton to die this season in the French Alps.
The skiers were being led by experienced instructor Didier Moreau, 48, an off-piste specialist with the Top Ski school.
Mr Moreau and his wife were said to have been watching members of the group descend a 1,500ft slope in the Pont St Charles area when disaster stuck.
Mr Whalley, who friends described as an extreme sports enthusiast, Peter Anderson, 55, and a French couple aged 62 and 59 were killed, while a fifth person was buried up to their legs but survived with no injuries. All were equipped with avalanche transceivers, a type of radio equipment used to track skiers trapped under snow..."

It has just been announced that Jamie's funeral will be on Tuesday 25th January in his home town of St Peter Port, Guernsey at 2.30pm.
easyJets CEO, Carolyn McCall has also said today that "...spoken to [James'] family and they have agreed that naming an aircraft after him would be a very appropriate memorial, so we will definitely do that."

The family have requested no flowers, but donations to be given to a new charity that they are setting up in conjunction with another family affected by this tragedy.
“The Mountain Safety Project” will provide mountain assistance in the Alps, specialising in the training of rescue personnel and the provision of specialist rescue equipment.
Whilst the charity is undergoing the setup procedures, the funeral parlour is handling the collection of donations. The account will be open for a period of 3 months after which all money raised will be handed to the charity. The names of all contributors will then be printed in the local press.
